Buying Used Cars on Craigslist Questions to Ask Sellers

If you want to buy an affordable used car, you may find yourself at Craigslist.org. This online classified website has a large selection of items listed for sale, including used cars, trucks, vans, and jeeps. Before agreeing to buy a used vehicle that you found listed on Craigslist, there are some important questions you want to ask. What are they? Question: Does the car need any repairs or upgrades? In most cases, a Craigslist car seller will not include this information.
After all, their main goal is to get the car sold. Many believe they aren’t lying if they leave the information out (and technically they aren’t), so be sure to ask. Question: What repairs or upgrades were recently made on the car? This question is important to ask because it can give you a true idea of the car’s price. You should always figure in the cost of immediate upgrades and repairs. It is good and will cost you less money if the truck you want to buy recently had new tires put on, had new brakes installed, or just underwent an oil change. Although most Craigslist car sellers just sell their vehicles as-is, it won’t hurt to ask. Question: Can I see the car? The answer to this question should be nothing other than yes. A car is a big purchase, even if you only spend $500 to $600. A seller who won’t let you see the car is likely trying to scam you; they may not even have a car to sell and plan to take your money and run. Seeing a car in person can also give you a good idea if you are spending your money wisely. Look under the hood for a quick inspection and then take the car for a test drive. Question: Are you willing to take X amount of dollars less? When buying a used car from a dealership, many buyers try and haggle for a lower price. You should do the same when buying a car from Craigslist. It won’t hurt to ask the seller if they will take less money, especially if the vehicle in question does need a few upgrades or repairs. Even if you can only get the price lowered $50, that is still $50 more in your pocket than you would have had. The above mentioned questions are a few of the many that you should ask before agreeing to buy a used car on Craigslist or any other place for that matter.
